Concept: 3. A teardrop. Nishani Rai an ominous character adds the fire into with one word - Revenge Kaash Sehgal makes me speculate how it so damn easy for him to love a person who is miles away from him unknown from his never confessed love, with all the beautiful letters, addressed to her unsent.
The characters intertwine in fashion the way blood does with vodka. It does have after effects lingering to scrutinize certain actions of Shahraan Ali Bakshi's obsession with Mehfil's memories which is addictive.
Neev Dixit and Reva Gupta's passion drove them to crazy ends. View all 11 comments. Sep 06, Qube rated it did not like it Recommends it for: Nobody. Shelves: indian-authors. How about a sin tonight is a novel about Bollywood that tries to paint the film industry in dark colours. It is a story of five people with dreams of stardom, intent on fulfilling their dreams at any cost. Three-fourths of the book comprises back stories of the five characters obsessed with Bollywood, and the last one-fourth brings them together to set up a climax.

The book starts with a sex scene that is remarkable in its lack of elegance and subtlety, which then sets the tone for the rest of the book. What follows is a stream of sleaze and poor taste my personal view. While one of the five — a legendary actor called Shahraan — succeeds on the back of a string of lucky breaks that are far from credible, the rest of them have to resort to sordid means.
The book will have the reader believe that willingness to trade sex for success is fundamental to progress in Bollywood. I don't have a clue if that is indeed the case, but I found little by way of insight or details in the book that lend authority to the dark picture.
An issue I had with the novel was the language, which I found hard to stomach. Not that I am averse to violence and sex in crime fiction I rated The Godfather 5 on 5 , but I found the deliberate overuse of the f-word tasteless. Unnecessary profanities used to paint a sordid picture detract from the flow and the story. A fixation with sex is evident through the book. For instance, the crowd at Bombay VT station is described as 'a gush of sperms'.
Having said that, I found idea of taking back stories of five characters and entwining them to set the stage for conflict to be a good one. One side character — a prostitute in one of the back stories — is interesting. She casts a shadow decades into the future. Overall, it is not a book I would recommend unless one is obsessed with Bollywood, and wishes to wallow in a fictional account of its squalor.
Jun 04, Payal rated it it was amazing Shelves: my-books. I truly appreciated his 'out of the box' theme and his way of story-telling It is something which very few can master and novoneel is one of them!! Though the book could have come out a bit better as compared to his 1st two books, i would truly recommend this book to every He is undoubtedly my favourite author from the beginning!!!

A book on Bollywood which is woven around emotions like love, hate, revenge, frustration, ambition etc. People have different definition of life, love etc which is way different than each other. All are right and yet wrong for others. All keep trying to get things as per their definition and ultimately fail because other's having different perception for same.
Story is interestingly gripping till end. Good timepass read. Nov 15, Aditya Bhasin added it. From the most beautiful space in their souls to the most confused portion of their hearts and the dirtiest corners of their minds… Love. Apart from story line everything seems to be new in these books —cover-page, the writer and publisher. But, this book is different and bold —all for good sake. This book is third by Chakraborty and second of his work that I am reading.
The story revolves around five individuals who were bound to meet some or other day among these flashy lights of glamour world.
All that they do and all that is done to make them meet each other, makes this book a must read. From fantastic one-liners to good narration, this book has all in it for you to be glued and wait to know- what happens next? Set on the backdrop of bollywood and TV industry this book is a bold step by Chakraborty.
The story line is different and fresh. And has great sense of maturity in it. The characters are crystal clear and one can easily relate to them. For me I had many instances when I could relate myself to Kaash. And could think of people I know personally who were almost like many other characters in the book.
The book is very much capable to connect with its indented audience and author was brilliantly able to define its concepts clearly. The language used is far better than what we see in a typical-CB-fiction-novel.
Chakraborty at few instances used very good use of metaphor. To me most of them were new and Chakraborty deserves a pat on his back for this, Kudos. When a woman is desperate, she hurts herself the most. The glances seemed like flying kisses, the abrupt eye contacts were tight hugs, and the averting of it was a love bite.
Men come and light a fire in some corner of us and we keep burning till we turn into insignificant ash and thereafter slave to the wind of destiny that carries us as per its desires.
Pg 83 ; 6 When a wife sleeps with another man, she is a whore. But when a whore decides to sleep with only one man for rest of her life, she still remains a whore. And I want to be an actor. Everything else about me, except my sexuality is in state if confusion pg 62 And to talk about my favorite character- Nishani, I would say that she is outrageously good.
She is bold and aggressive. She knew how to feed the infant of interest so that it grows into a man of obsession. Imagine: He once said he would talk to his mother, to ask if he should have sex or not.
And in the other instance when he says that his mother is trying to strike a deal for their honeymoon where she will accompany the couple. Though everything seems flowery in this book, I also think there were many instances throughout the book where the connection between previous and next set of narration was completely absent.
Suddenly a character would drop in and one had to flip pages to check if one had missed out anything about that character in last few pages; only to find out that no- nothing of that sought happened.
Sep 30, Shikha Sharma rated it it was amazing. Complexity, uniqueness, ethnicity- this novel just has it all. The writer of this book, Novoneel Chakraborty has penned two bestsellers in the past and this would surely be the third bestseller from his pen. In his earlier books, he portrayed black and white characters but this time, he defined how a grey character should be. All the characters had the flaws of their own and this is what made them more realistic. The story has bollywood in backdrop and people there seem to be portraying characters, even off screen.
It shows the struggle to reach to the top, the fall from there which takes away everything, the hidden truth of the life which is seen as being glamorous. This is a story of five individuals with their different motives, different dreams and different ambitions and how their lives take sharp turns once love enters.
All his characters have a uniqueness in them and the dialogues are something to watch out for. And the best thing about his writings is that it never seem to you that the story is written by a man, he gives a proper space to his female characters to cast their influence. In this novel, the characters of Nishani and Reva have the traits which most of the women would find in themselves. After reading each page, you are left with a curiosity to turn the page and know more.
Plus, there are superb one liners and awesome quotations which makes it all a treat for eyes. Like all his novels has a supernatural touch in them, the first one had the concept of rebirth, the second one had the concept of identical faces, even this one ended with a supernatural element- it showed the feelings of Nishani which further helps to give the story a perfect ending.
The Editors have also done their job well and it reflects in the book. So, this is a must-read for all the people who want to explore the meaning of love, the meaning of life and the joy of reading.
