Downloading something off of browser on iphone

The method is very similar in earlier versions of iOS, so if you have not yet updated to iOS 7, you can still follow the steps below, although your screens will look somewhat different.

Note that this tutorial will specifically show you how to disable Safari, the Web browser that is installed on your iPhone 5 by default. If you have another Web browser installed, such as Chrome, then you will need to delete that browser following the steps in this article. You will also need to disable access to the App Store, which you will be able to do on the same screen that we navigate to in the tutorial below.

Step 5: Enter a passcode for the Restrictions menu. Make sure that this is something that you can remember easily, otherwise you will not be able to return to this menu and make additional changes.

Step 7: Touch the button to the right of Safari to disable it. There will not be any green shading around the button when it is disabled, as it is in the image below. You should also disable the Installing Apps option so that they cannot download a different Web browser. This will prevent downloading of other apps as well. On your iPhone or iPad, go to Safari and open the file you are trying to download. In this example, we are trying to download a PDF file. Select Save to Files. From there, you will be able to enable the Files extension.

At this point, you may rename the file and select a specific location before saving it. Personally, I like to save my downloaded files into the Downloads folder, so this is the folder I will select.

Now tap the Save button. The file is now in your iCloud Drive and will be available for easy access across all your devices, such as your computer, your iPhone, iPad, etc. The steps mentioned above work great if the file you are trying to download is available publicly from a website. But things can get a little tricky if you are trying to download a file or document that is stored on a password-protected website.

Here is how to use it to download a file from a password-protected site. The Documents app will automatically prompt you to save that file. Tap Done when ready to save the document. From Documents 5, you will then be able to move it to iCloud or Dropbox, or Google Drive, for example.

Open a photo in Messages or the app you're viewing it in by tapping it. Tap the Share button which looks like an arrow pointing up out of a cup. You should see two save options in the bottom row of the pop-up window: Save Image and Save to File. You probably don't need to do this often, but it is possible to download files from a web page in Safari. Start the Safari app and go to a web page that has the file you want to download.

Tap the file to download it, whether through a link or download button. Depending on the type of file, it might open on the iPhone screen, a new tab in Safari, or display a prompt for you to choose a location to download it. If so, you can pick a folder to store it in on iCloud, in your iPhone's set of folders, or in a folder like Dropbox, if you use that app. Your iPhone includes Files, an app that can locate and open files stored on your phone, sort of like a desktop computer's file manager.

Here's how to use it. Start the Files app, which looks like a blue folder on a white background. In the Browse section, tap a location where you want to browse. Tap to open subfolders as needed to find the file you want. Tap the file you want to open. Your iPhone will open the file using the appropriate app.
